Letter from the President
August 1st, 2011
Dear Adelphi Parents:
Our new school year begins next month, and as in years past we face new challenges and new opportunities to serve our students. Today we face the challenge of educating our young people in the rapidly developing technology of information gathering, the natural sciences, mathematics, appreciation for diversity, understanding of our historical traditions and vital communication skills. It is our belief that the fundamental truth to teaching is to live the lessons you are seeking to teach. Our young people will see easily through any insincere effort to do so. Indeed, the Latin motto inscribed upon our school crest comes to mind – “Without learning, there can be no life.”
Hence, while everyone was talking “green”, we decided to lead by example by doing something concrete and definitive to help our environment and move our school forward simultaneously. As part of our ongoing and ever changing long range planning for the Academy, we have pledged for the 2011-2012 academic year and beyond to communicate with our families much more through email and our website (adelphiacademy.org) and less through paper and mailings. In order to substantially cut down on the amount of paper we use for the publication of our “Back to School” Packet and numerous other periodic publications throughout the year, we will be placing all such important information on our web site for your easy access.
We are all faced with continuing challenges to keep our lives as green as possible. Governmental agencies, private and public corporations and offices and individuals are all being challenged to “step up” and do their part to help our environment. Adelphi will be doing our part so that our grandchildren can enjoy the seasonal changes, clean air, clean water and quality of life we have enjoyed.
On our web site you will find our “Back to School” Packet for your child. If questions should arise it is our goal to have the answers to basic questions and standard information located on our website. However, we do recognize that some parents may not have access to a computer at all times, so if you would like a paper copy of the packet or any other information as it becomes available, please feel free to contact the Main Office (718-238-3308, extension: 305) at any time and we will be very happy to send you hard copies of any information you require.
In addition to the packet, all future editions of our monthly parent newsletter, student publications, emergency school closing procedures and notices, flyers, brochures, press releases, and other important documents can always be found on the website and may also be mailed upon request.
As always, we will do all that we can to keep you informed of all events, policies, procedures and programs at Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn.
Very Truly Yours,
Dr. Roy J. Blash
President
